ROLAND MARTIN FISHING WEQUAQUET LAKE

Roland Martin catches a good largemouth for the camera          Do you know where Roland is fishing in Wequaquet?

The following is the story Don Watson told me as he recounted his day with Roland Martin on Wequaquet Lake.

"We fished Wequaquet on Wednesday Sept. 17 and Sept. 18 from approx. 1000-1600 using the Mojo Weights he fished them as a drop shot and carolina rig methods. He only lip hooked the senko on the drop shot method, on the carolina method
he hooked it like a texas rig.  He used used Senkos as the plastic bait. (5").  All fish that were caught were largemouth up to just over five pounds.  Fish were caught near the white buoys before you enter Bearses Pond on the back side of the point and also on varioius humps.  He used 10-12 pound test line on his Roland Martin baitcast reels with Fenwick rods.

Text Box: Donny Jr. and I were also invited to their Hotel to have dinner with Roland, Walt and their wives on Sept. 19, 2003.  A good time was had by all and they are very gracious.  A side note...Walt Reynolds swears by a topwater bait called the "High Roller" it seemed to attract a lot of strikes.  It works a lot like a Spook.  They were both extremely focused on using their electronics as they were on strange water and it was amazing to see them in action eliminating unproductive and productive areas.  They operate their boats very slowly and constantly watch what is under them.  Tremendous concentration on structure.  A quote from Walt Reynold to me was "tournaments are usually won from fishing lake structure, (Humps and Points) not by beating the banks even though limits can be caught on the banks they are rarely winning weights" based on his 30+ years of experience."
