This is the ramp area. There is a breakline at about 8 feet around this area- both north around the swimming beach and south along the private beach area. Scattered weed beds at about 8feet down to about 13 feet in some areas- it changes each year. spinnerbaits, top water (early and late) sluggos and senkos all around the weeds are very good. The docks in the area also are good during high sunlight.
The Northwest shoreline has scattered weeds and rock. There are also a few docks in the area that hold fish. In the corner of the pond, there is a flat and moorings which will occasionally hold fish. Usually the bass are searching for food here and if you see bait fish then the bass are not far. If I don't see bait fish, I fish it very quickly and move on if I don't get a fish. The contour drops very quickly in this area . Try this spot for small mouth in the winter time with jigging spoons.
The Northeast corner looks the same as the northwest on the surface. However there usually is a weedline of about 3 feet in width that runs the entire length of shoreline south to the first major point, in about 8 feet of water. The weedline gets thicker when you get into the little cove. I like to fish the weedline with the wind if it's strong and against it if it is light. I'll use fast moving baits until I figure out where the bass are holding in relation to the weeds.
This point is very deep on the NW side of it and steep. The SE side slopes into deep water. Usually there is some weeds growing on it during the summer. Spinnerbaits, top water and crankbaits are good reaction baits when the wind is blowing on the point. If it is calm, I like using worms or senkos- slow falling type lures near the grass beds. The point is a good area in the winter for small mouth. Use your depth finder to find what depth the bait fish are in, the small mouth aren't far away. Drag a tube or carolina rig along the point form 20-40 ft.
This small bay area is a good spawning area in the spring. Pre- spawn large mouth and small mouth can be found in this area but are very spooky. During the summer, there is usually very good weeds growing down to 10 feet and more along the drop. In the 7 foot area the fish are active on spinnerbaits early in the summer. Between the fishing pressure and the boat traffic, they become less active as the summer goes on and you need to "coax" them out of the weeds. Weedless tubes and senkos worked around the inside and outside weed lines caught a lot of fish the past few years.
A large flat in the middle of the pond is always good to fish. The small mouth spawn in the deeper part of the flat, but it takes a long time to cover the flat looking for beds; so I use a spinnerbait to locate where active fish are. I'm always watching the bottom in the front of my boat for that large looking bed that the small mouth makes. The fish seem to "roam" the flat after the spawn, there are scattered weed beds on it. They aren't very big- too much boat traffic over the years. In the early summer I use a medium running crankbait to find the newly emerging weeds. Then I throw a worm in the weed bed. I have a GPS so I can locate them after I find them in the spring. If you don't have one, try varying the depth of your crankbait as the weeds keep growing; around July.
The East shoreline is relatively flat- around 4-7 feet quite a ways from the shoreline, then begins the drop into 8-15 feet and then deeper. There is one "cut" that protrudes toward the bank. The weeds are the key to this area. I find the better quality fish are hanging near the weeds. Because of the boat traffic, the weeds seem to "move" each year. I remember when it was almost all weeds in the area, and a distinct weedline, but now you have to find the "clumps" of weeds. In the pre-spawn and spawn timeframe- you can catch both largemouth and small mouth in this area.
Deep water docks are the key feature in this area. To compliment the deep docks is the weedy flat that is so close to them. Many fisherman can be seen in this area at all time of the year. The weeds seem to thrive in this area. The water in front of the docks on the northeast side can reach 30 feet. The end of the dock is about 10 feet. What is hard is that the weed line is in the 5-7 foot area and during the summer it is hard to penetrate the thick weeds. Fishing the flat area is lots of fun. Both large mouth and small mouth "cruise" this area all year long. During a nice sunny summer day, I like throwing a fast moving large spinnerbait, especially around 11:00 and the wind is blowing across the flat. I have caught some nice small mouth doing that technique. In the fall, I downsize to the small spinnerbaits or mepps in this area. Senkos do rule the area!!!! They slide through the weeds and the bass can't stand it!!!!!!!
The culvert which lies underneath the rocks in this corner is always holding a fish. It's easy to spook the fish on this flat because of the clear water. Long casts and small splashes are a must in this area. The weeds are good right in front of the culvert. They are scattered along the flat in front, but do grow along the breakline. Just to the west of the culvert the water is 35 feet deep.
The large bay is very shallow. It is an area of spawning for both large mouth and small mouth. During the summer the weeds grow to the surface, and since boat traffic is at a no wake speed, the grass remains tall and thick Top water baits and slow falling plastics are very good in this area. The little "river" is good in Jan- Mar. You can see most of the fish grouped in their weight categories as you troll up it. The shallow bay in the back is getting weed choked. It still holds some nice bass, and tournament anglers go up in here in the early spring because the water warms so quickly.
The west shoreline in this area is rocky and slow tapering out to the middle of the pond. The small mouth will cruise in this area in the pre spawn and there are a few beds along the shallow areas. During the summer the weeds grow well in the protected corner of the "cut". The weeds are protected from the boat traffic and the largemouth will stay in this area during the summer. Senkos, jigs, worms, spinnerbaits, crankbaits are all very good in this area. As in other weed areas, the size and extent of the weed growth will determine which bait covers the area best.
